Alternative Press Expo

I got a booth at Alternative Press Expo, booth 121B. The objective is to get there, sell what I can, do good work, and not trying to whore lasciviously for the sake of a bad idea.

The booth is a lot closer than last time, though I still choose to share a booth rather than pay for a whole booth. But the section of the hall it’s in is off in the corner, so we’ll see how things go before making a judgment. Either way, it still doesn’t change what I will choose to do in order to prepare and to sell.

This time, I’ll present prints on the first day rather than stumble into presenting prints on the second day. I’ll also keep my comic book portfolio off of the table in order to leave more space. I’ve also gotten a banner to display behind the booth, and I’m planning to put up additional pictures around the front of the table in order to bring customers in. The print of issue two will be coming in soon, so after that has been approved, it should be clear sailing to the convention.

I’m also planning to make three more illustrations before the convention, though I’m not going to rush it and put out something either sub-par or something I just don’t approve of. A picture of Mario, Luigi, and Peach holding a classic Super Mario power-up. Mario with a Fire Flower, Luigi with A mushroom, and Peach with a star. More than likely, it will be in pastel at a reasonable size for printing rather than something huge and unwieldy or small and hard to add detail work with. Either one is good. There will also be new prints as well with the banner being one of them. I don’t know how many more.

I am eerily calm about this. Just feels like work, to be honest. Just want to do a good job with what I have and build something that I can be proud of. I am glad that I’m not going about this the way that I did when I first started. It actually looks like I have a clue as to what I’m doing instead of barely beating the deadline and hoping for the best while trying to figure out what to do as things go on.

I do commissions and sketches. I will draw most anything at nearly any size, but not everything.

1) No Pornography. I can and will draw erotica and nude subjects as long as tact and tastefulness are maintained within the commission.

2) No racist or deliberately offensive materials.

3) Format. I draw in pencil, pen and ink, pastels, oils, and acrylics. My primary medium is pastels. I am incredibly rusty in digital painting, so ask at risk.

4) Subject matter determines price. For the familiar, it is easier to charger a flatter rate. For unfamiliar, the price can range depending on what it is and the size of the picture.

I really like the simplicity and effectiveness of your work. Do you use primarily brush pens, brushes, or do you go between them depending on where you are?
